OUR VACATION...(Part 2)

Me and my husband, enjoying a great vacation, come along for part 2.

This and some of the following pictures are of such an awesome place!
I had never been here before so I was so in awe of such history.

These pictures are at a place called Mesa Verde...have you been there?
They were the homes of Indian cliff dwellers and I do mean cliffs!

These homes were carved right out of the rock face of a cliff.
Can you imagine living 9,000 feet up on the face of a cliff?!

This is a Kiva..a sacred place of gathering for their community.
Dug down in rock...I can't imaging how they could do it.

A set of stone grinders where they ground corn for meals.
Kind of like our islands in our kitchens but they were on their knees!

Several families would live here for generations.

I kept wondering how they kept the babies away from the ledges!

This place was so hidden, right at the end of a box canyon
and totally protected from the elements or danger from enemies.

This must be the master bedroom don't you think?!

These cliff dwelling were discovered by cattlemen in the 1880's.
They were out looking for some lost cattle, this is what it looked like
when they found it. It has now been worked on a bit but is much the same.

A picture of what it may have looked like in the days that it
was lived in by Indian families. The men had to climb up and
over the face of the cliff to go out hunting for food, It must have
been hard work to get it back and into their home!

This looks like it is sitting ground level but it is a drop off below
their homes.

Hundreds of people, families would live here together.
The homes went way back into the mountain too. When
I first was this I was just gasping...it is so awesome!

A tower right in the middle of the cliff village.

The Anasazi/Ancestral Puebloans Indians lived in these cliff dwellings
in 1100 AD. They are built of adobe, sometimes 3 stories high. The
rooms were around 6x8 ft. No one know why they lived in these cliff
dwellings...was it for safety from enemies? They left in 1400 AD.
See the rock on the face of these cliffs, this is where they would
cut into the rock and make their homes! I can't imagine living on a
cliff, raising babies and living inside a rock mountain all winter long!

This was a little town right off the freeway that we stopped into
one night to stay, The next morning I went for a walk all around
the town. It was filled with the neatest homes!

I loved this big old mansion...it would make a great B&B.

An old church turned into someones home.

Cute little cottage homes with picket fences.

I loved these old carriages in this yard.

Just so cute!...I love cottage homes!

This beautiful, peaceful river runs right through town.

I loved this tree house in a front yard.

This cute little hid-a-way was an antique shop.

In this old building was the best bakery ever! The cinnamon
roll I ordered was as light as a feather and so Heavenly good!

This painting was there...loved it cause I do love those Roos!

Another big old mansion in town...so amazing!

The drive over the mountain pass to the town above was
so very beautiful! The leaves were still on the trees and in
full color...it was gorgeous at every bend of the road!

As we drove on this mountain pass...my eyes caught something
along side the road but back in the trees. I had my hubbie turn
the car around and we went back and found a very old cemetery!
This little grave stone was nestled in 3 big old trees, it was a little
girls grave, her name was Nettie and she had died as a little child.

I felt like we were on sacred ground..and we were.
These were someones loved ones, their family. This
old grave sits in the middle of big old mountains where
families lived together, trying to make a living in the mines.

It was so quiet...so cold with some snow on the ground.
We walked all over, reading the headstones, most of the
dates were in the 1800's!

Gorgeous iron gates surrounding graves, someones loved ones.

A beautiful mountain lake with come cabins here.

These gorgeous mountains in Colorado...so high...so magnifient!

We went into the mountain town and ski resort of Telluride.
There were beautiful dogs everywhere...I loved these babies!

It was sunny and cold...we walked the streets looking into
the shops then popped into a pizza place for the best pizza
I have ever had! Maybe it tasted so good because we were
so hunger and cold, but it was so good!

This sweetheart was tied up and waiting for her owner
that had gone into a shop. I always have to stop and talk
to all the animals you know!

Well, this was part 2...part three will be next!
Have a great week dear friends...sending you my love!

WELCOME FALL....

The weather has changed and it looks like there is no turning back...
So, the next best thing is to just welcome it all and throw on the warm socks
and sweatshirts. I really resisted, but now that I have given in, I am ready.

Woke up the other morning to ice everywhere, the sprinklers were on
and everything was a frozen wonderland. A big branch broke off our tree
from the weight of the ice...but it really looked pretty!

We have started up the pellet stove to keep the house warm and the house
is bursting with happy Halloween decorations. I do really love the winter
holidays, they get me through the colder months.

My favorite withes have come to smile their sly smiles at us...
(I got them at Ace Hardware)

We are ready for the trick and treats...

You might have to sing us a song for your treat though!

So come on...enter if you dare...really, we aren't scary at all!

Then again, maybe we are!

I love to make these at Halloween time, they always turn out so cute! Make your cupcake, pull one end out and put in half of a marshmallow, frost the whole thing with whipped frosting. Use Jr. Mints for the eyes and sliced almonds for the teeth, chocolate chip for the nose.

Sophia watching cartoons with her dad...my, times have changed...
These little ones really are coming computer savvy.

Looks like Sophia had got her pumpkins all picked out!

Flying high with dad, look at that tongue! LOL

One of my blog friends contacted me on day to tell me that she had heard that
one of our church's temples had burned down. I thought it was sweet of her to
tell me that...but it wasn't a temple. just a very old church building. It was sad
and many people who used it felt so bad. Well, it has just been announced that
it is going to be rebuilt as a temple! It will be really beautiful, a very special new
beginning for this old lady.

My hubby and I took a long weekend and went up to Park City, Utah.
This is Bridal Veil Falls and it looked so beautiful surrounded by the fall colors.

We passed this old red truck, I yelled to the couple that I would
be willing to trade my new car for their red truck but he said, no thanks!

This place was owned by my grandparents, it is called Lemon's Grove.

We spent lots of time here as kids..for family reunions etc. I was
thrilled to see that it was still there and still carried that name.

Park City was so much fun, lots of antique shops...

I loved the red boots in this store window...

We couldn't pass this store up as we were looking for that, after dinner sweet!

Our church even had a little place there on main street. Lots of
people were stopping in, looking up their ancestors and family lines.

All the shops were all lite up and there is just a fun festive feeling.

GORGEOUS...I DO SO LOVE TURQUOISE!

Loved the lights...

This guy was hanging out at the boot store.

I loved this old house and how they had it all decorated for Halloween.

Main street ends and the mountains begin..beautiful!

My grandpa's house is still there...we spent many a weekend there
running the streets with our cousins, that was before Park City became
such a tourist place and home of Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival.
I miss the old Park City even though I still like it now too.

A view of the end of main street...

My grandpa used to take me with him to get the mail here on main street.
Now it's lined with cars and hard to find a place to park!

We saw tons of gorgeous colored leaves on this trip...

This sweet baby was so close to our car!

The mountains rise up right over all the old homes in Park City.
Most of them have been bought up and are now all guised up with
bright colors. It really is fun just to drive around to see them.

I remember this big old barn from my childhood. It sat way out in the field so
peaceful like...now there is a walking/biking path to it and all around it, it has
become a tourist site.

We were in St. George, Utah this last week and we bought a little 1937 home there!
Our place here is still for sale, so we will just enjoy time there as we can, until this one sells.

It is so cute and all redone, nice yard and it is really cute. I was visiting with the
lady who will be my neighbor and she gave me a sack of Pomegranites and her
recipe for Pomegranite Salsa...it is SO good, so I am sharing it with you!

POMEGRANITE SALSA

2 pomegranites. seeded
1 avacado, diced
1 tomatoe, diced
2-3 green onions, sliced
1 T. lemon (or) lime juice
1/8 tsp. cayenne
1/4 tsp coriander (or) parsley
1/2 tsp. salt

Cut the pomegranits partially through, then
break them up under water. Push the seeds out.
and the skin will float to the surface and the seeds
will be in the bottom of your bowl, drain.

Combine ingredients in a bowl
toss to coat, eat with tortilla chips.
