HORSES, HOLLYHOCKS and HORNY TOADS...

I was raised on a farm and we have always had horses
but I have not seen horses just loving to stand for long
periods of time, out in a belly high river..this caught my
attention the other day..sharing it with you~

They were out there to eat on the tall grasses that were
growing up through the river. Horses are funny critters!

I know when I have been riding, if I come to a river like this,
I have to really watch my horse because he LOVES to paw at
the water and if I let him, he'll lay right down in it!!!

This is our previous home..we sold it and then it sold again..

The lady and her husband that bought it are my daughters
in laws (her husbands sister). We go there sometimes to see
my daughter while she is visiting there...it feels funny to be
in my old home visiting some one else! And it feels funny for
my daughter Lindsey too as she has slept in her old bedroom
with her now husband, the same bedroom where they occasionally
hung out as teenagers too!

It always seems strange to walk into your old home with
someone else's new paint colors and their decorating style too!

I planted these Hollyhocks and they just wouldn't grow...
look what they have done for her! Aren't they pretty?!
Maybe because her name is Holly!

I love these kinds of old-fashioned swings!
I had one as a child and I could swing higher
than our house! How come kids aren't as lucky today?!

On one of my walking routes Hollyhocks line the fields and road...
I am sure they have been there for years and years..love them!

This is my grandson Caleb...he and his daddy caught
a horny toad...he was so mesmerized by it...it was so
cute! I watched him closely, he was talking to it and
then suddenly, he gave it a little quick lick!!! Boys...
yes I think they really are made out of snails and
puppy dog tails...Yuck! I about died! But I didn't say
a word!

I get to see my newest little grand Sophia tonight!
I am so excited...and yes you will most likely see
more pictures! LOL Whats a grandma to do?!

Sending all of you sweet sisters...
All my love!

I love horses and used to ride when I was a girl. These beautiful horses must have been hot - they were content out in the water :-D
The Hollyhocks are beautiful - reminds me of Holly Hobby. I have never tried to grow them or even thought about it Hhhhhmmmmm - pretty pretty.
Your little Caleb is a cutie and boys are so funny the way they love creatures - I could do without them but having three boys myself I've had to deal with plenty of them - ha ha.

I do love hollyhocks, remind me of my grandma's house. We sold a house years ago to some friends of ours. It was weird to walk around in a house that is so familiar and yet so strange with other people's things in it. That Sophia is getting cuter and cuter. Mimi

Gorgeous Hollyhocks.Im remember my grandmother having loads of them.I planted a Rose of Sharion this year its very small but has loads of blooms.

Those hollyhocks are the prettiest I've seen. They are the kind of flowers that can either be gorgeous or look kind of "old"!! LOVED these!!

Yes, that would certainly be weird for you and your daughter to visit your old home!! Too strange!

Pretty cute little grandson!! Little kids are the best, just so honest and sincere!

Those horses sure know how to cool themselves down don't they.
That's pretty cool that you get to go hang out in your old house sometimes but I agree it would seem rather strange.
Too cute with your grandson. He licked the horny toad huh? Boys will be boys...lol

Wide open spaces, with horses, Hollyhocks, and horny toad licking grandsons! *sigh* Sounds like a pretty good life! ^_^

I love Holly Hocks! When I was a kid, we used to pick the blossoms, turn them upside down and and pretend that they were pretty ladies with flowing billowy gowns. :)

I don't know much about horses but I can see these are enjoying the water a lot!

A couple of years ago the house my dad built and the one I grew up in was on the market and vacant. (we moved out in the 70's) I called the Realtor and was able to walk through. So many memories! I peeked at my old bedroom and wandered about taking it all in. Much was changed but my dad's work bench in the basement was just as I remembered it.

We had what we called 'the bank' in our back yard. It was a steep hill that went down and was filled with trees and streams. We played there endlessly.

Gee, I didn't mean to ramble on so. Your post took me back in time :)

Happy Sophia time tonight!

Hi Julie! I guess the horses are feeling the heat, too, OR they just love the water. I've seen some in the ponds around here, too.

Your new little grand daughter is precious and I know you're looking forward to spending some more time with her. You have such a lovely family! Have a wonderful weekend!

i'm always curious and wish I could go into my old houses and see what they've done with them. love the hollyhocks.

Well, I loved your post...the horses...the trip to your old house...your Hollyhocks (for Holly) but I started laughing right out loud to myself (yeah...MyHero thinks I'm crazy enough) when I read about Caleb licking the toad. What is it about little boys? Most little girls would think that was the most disgusting thing they had ever touched and here he is licking it. Do you suppose because he saw the tounge flipping in and out? Whatever reason...that is one moment you will always remember and make sure and remind him about it when he is old enough to date! lol Diana

I love it that your horse "paws' at the water!
How sweet is that!
You live in such a lovely area!
I know you love taking long walks with those holly~hocks!
And I am LOVIN those boots over there on the sidebar!
Thanks for always popping over to Bainbridge Sweetpea!
Please forgive me for not popping over into your world for so long!

I loved horny toads and horses when i was a young girl! The picture with your sweet grandson mesmerized by the little critter is so adorable. Your old home was gorgeous- I love the holly hocks... i have never been able to grow them either!

Have fun visiting the new doll.

Our neighbors board horses and they sometimes turn the sprinkler on in the arena to wet the dirt and keep down the dust...the horses just love to run through the spray of water... just like little kids. Very funny to watch.

I love hollyhocks but they would never grow in my hot desert...but I enjoy them when I visit Utah. Have fun with little Sophia.

Wonderful glimpse into your life Julie! I loved this. Boys!! How disgustingly adorable! Love the Hollyhocks. Todd and I need to plant some. They are a typically English Garden favourite! xxoo

The horses at the river, such a peaceful and refreshing picture.

I had to laugh at your grandson licking the toad, little boys are so interesting and funny, aren't they?

Your old home is beautiful, as are the flowers. Of course the flowers are blooming so profusely because you did a good job of planting them, just took time for them to take off!

Those horses are lovely and I wish I knew more about the care of horses. They have always been a bit of a mystery to me. That must have been a real experience walking through that house the first time. I have so many memories of my home and my grandmother's house when I was a child. Your grandson is adorable (they all are). Have a great Sunday, Julie. I'm off to cuddle my grand-daughter. Hugs, Deb =^..^=x5

What a beautiful home and area. The horses are fantastic and so are the hollyhocks. They look much better than mine that developed rust due to all the rain we've had. Thanks for the gorgeous photos!

OH, I just laughed OUT LOUD at Caleb licking the toad! Such a boy thing!!! Hilarious!

I love Holly Hocks too...have never tried to grow them at The Glen...think I will add that to my list for next spring! Thanks Julie!

Hi Julie~I love all of your pictures!
Your grandson with the horny toad is just too cute. Thanks for the close-up. I've never seen one!
Also, it has always been a wish of mine to have holly hocks lining a fence. At Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home holly hocks grow so beautifully.
I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great week!

Love all the pics! I took my boys for a 4-wheeler ride last night down our rode. We had rain yesterday and there were toads all over the place. They had to get off and catch a few. I don't think they licked any but I wouldn't put it past them. I'm almost certain that one got flushed down the toilet!

Can't wait to see more pics of precious Sophia!

Hi Julie,
I bet it was strange to walk into your old home. I occasionally drive by our old house when I am in that town just to take a look.
I love Hollyhocks. Ours are all done blooming now till next year.
That is so funny about your little grand son licking that toad. Most of our little grand daughters wouldn't even pick it up! That is nice you didn't even say a word, I think I would have gagged....it's really easy to make me gag.

Oh, my...that's a lovely house.
The Hollyhocks are just beautiful.

We've lived in our house for about 35 years, raising 2 kids and grands, when the house across the street came up for sale. I was so so tempted..bigger, prettier...but I got to thinking about looking out and seeing someone else living in MY house and ....we just couldn't do it. It's not this simple, fairly ugly house I love..it's the memories that live in it..! :)

Karen Deborah said...

Love your old house it's a beauty! Isn't it fun to see animals enjoy creation? It must be hot out your way too. My puppy gets in the water every chance he gets, water bowls, water hose anything. If we had a pond he'd go swimming too.
Love your grandson. My little brother put a tree frog in his mouth once with the legs sticking out. My mom screamed her head off, "SPIT IT OUT"! He just laughed and spit it out, little turkey.

I have SUCH fond memories of playing with hollyhocks as a child. My dad had a 3-week class he had to attend in another state and we had very little space in the car for "toys" to entertain the four girls for that 3 weeks. We spent it playing jacks on the porch of the home we rented, and made dolls of the hollyhocks in the side yard, using a toothpick to attach "head" to "dress." What fun to remember this. Thanks, Julie!

Hopefully it will sell soon and I don't have to deal with it and the memories. haha

The horses must have been warmish! I think they are such regal creatures.
LICKED THE TOAD!!!! Ewwwww! That's hilarious.
A few weeks ago my grandson (who is 3) was acting like a dog, barking, "walking" on all fours and walked over to the dog bowl and drank! We all gagged and laughed so he did it again. I was able to take a picture that time!

Beautiful house and scenery! You must live in heaven.

As usual beautiful pictures Julie! Love seeing the horses. My hollyhocks had bloomed for years here but down to just a few now. Will have to try to replant some next year. Would be strange to be in your old house. Nice to see what people have did to it. You have such a beautiful house now tho!

Hi, Julie, sweet friend,
You have a gorgeous home today, and your previous home is very pretty, too. Don't feel bad about having trouble getting hollyhocks to take hold. I love hollyhocks, and they grew fabulously in NM, but I struggle continuously to get them to do well in Texas. Don't know why really unless they like the cooler mornings and evenings of NM. Your little granddaughter is an angel. I know you all are so proud of her. I smiled when I saw that horney toad. We always played with them when I was growing up in the desert of southeastern NM. This brought back many happy memories when I saw your little grandson with one. Have a lovely week~Vicki

Interesting to see the horses in the water and licking a horny toad? That's got to mean something; warts on tongue, eyes turn orange - something!

Hope you enjoy(ed) your visit with the sweet grandbaby.

Hi Julie...that is one thing I have to do before I die ( I don't like the phrase bucket list!)....is to ride a horse...with my history of broken bones and bad shoulders the family is reluctant to let me try this but one day I will just give it a shot...Love that Caleb licked the frog..yes, only a boy...can't wait to see more pictures of the baby...can't get enough of little girls....
