PART TWO OF...My Favorite Things

In this post, I'm sharing more of my favorite things from my home. I love it when people do that and I get to see into their homes, it kind of tells me who they are and it causes me to love them.
There are lots of pictures here in part two of... "My Favorite Things"...I hope you enjoy them.

This is a piece of art that my Uncle had commissioned for his wife who loved flowers, I am so blessed to have it now, my Mom gave it to me before she died.

I love the mirror on one of our dressers in our bedroom...oh oh, now you see me too! LOL

I love this picture... love is a wonderful thing at any age!

Our home is on the rustic side..a cowhide given to me by my brother in law.

But also in our home are many things on the soft side, Victorian, retro, vintage...I love it all

My Mom used to have this in our home when I was a little girl, I thought it was me!

Motherhood...again, so dear to my heart. If I could I'd gather all the little ones up and "rock them gently"~

This sits by the side of my claw foot tub that I love...it's fun to be soaking by a full moon!

Nothing better than a hot bubble bath on a cold winter night for me!

I love this image of a woman in her pretty dress tossing out feed for the chickens

I have a ton of chickens in my home, it stays with me from my childhood of being raised on a farm I guess.."you can take the girl off the farm but can't take the farm out of the girl"~

One of 6 plates, from William Sonoma...again..a farm theme~

I love the picture on this tray...I grew up with a farm dog that looked just like this. His name was Shep...best dog ever, he even saved my Dad's life when a huge bull attacked my dad while he was on a horse.

A vintage tablecloth that I bought from an old lady here in my town, she had the cutest little gift shop in her home, it had never been used, love the red!

One of four chair pads I just love, they are at my kitchen table.

Yes, mine is a country kitchen...love it!

This hangs in my kitchen...love it!

I love this very old book I have...a little treasure~

Very old, little porcelain babies, I just love his bottom peeking out and her sucking her toes!

My Mom gave me this...I love the JOY of that "first step"..and parenthood~

My Mom gave me this beautiful little lady...standing in the wind!

Ron gave me this when I couldn't have any more babies...

Over the years Ron has bought me these beautiful statues...I just love them! They are by G. Armani..such delicate work~

Just cuteness...one can never have too many kitties!

Pictures of Ron and I in our younger years...He was a Marine and I, a high school graduate here.

~I love tea parties~

"Sweethearts from Holland"...from a cruise Ron and I took~

Mom gave me this too~

"Joy in her posterity"...Grandma's can never have too many grand children you know!

I believe this with all my heart!

A hand made statue..out of olive wood...bought her on a trip to Israel~

Love the windows in my great room..it's awesome to see a full moon framed here~

Our kids gave us this one Christmas...it's me and Ron~

Love this little hand painted picture. I have been in love with robin egg blue since I first saw them in a Robin's nest! One of the true joys of nature~

Love these pillows that sit on an old bench in my foyer and the rooster sits in the window across from the bench.

Love his soft puppy eyes...he sits on the hearth of the fireplace

On a wall by my front door~

Love our big rug that sits in the great room

A very old piece in our great room...it holds the TV

I have 2 of these BIG pillows on my leather couches and they are so soft to cuddle up on

I hope you have enjoyed this part two of..My Favorite Things...I think there might be a part three next time.
None of these things equate money or are very flashy but they are things we have added to out home over these many years. Things that we have collected, things that were inherited, things we love that make our home a place of love. I hope you enjoyed your visit to my home and that you'll come say hi again :D
P.S. In my comments here, I want you all to read the comment by "Cowboy Mom"...she is a friend of mine who was chosen as the "Cowboy Poet Laureate" for Utah last year...I love the poem she left here for me, I think you will too. Also her blog is here on my side bar by the same name..she is an awesome woman and mother and poet!

More beautiful items in your house. From the pieces you show, I can feel the love that is in your house.

I love the piece that holds the TV, chair covers, cats, the picture of the little girl with the bluebird in tree. Really like it all.

Real Peace

In our high mountain valley on a perfect summer day

There you might, still, find the frost on the purple blooms of hay

That early in the morning I turn toward the east

And watch as shadows linger, for the light has now increased.

And the whole mountain valley, at least that’s how it seems,

Is covered in a halo of life pumped from the streams.

The sprinklers flicker on and off as young boys are out choring,

And the traffic hasn’t picked up yet, from the city folks a touring.

Peace is still existent in our hidden mountain home,

And everywhere the tourists look no matter where they roam,

They cannot find the real peace, It’s hidden from their view.

It doesn’t come aesthetically. Its produced by what we do.

Our scenery that seems perfect brings peace and traps the eye,

Because of all the labor our scenery must imply.

There in lies the real peace, as we watch our children grow.

It’s something that the tourists may never really know.

And so they pass on by us with a stumped and longing gaze

Never understanding what it is they really praise.

Cathy comments: Have you ever looked at a picture of a farm scene and been drawn in by how perfect the picture is? There are children in their Sunday best holding little farm animals, which lay peacefully in their laps. They are sitting under perfectly pruned trees near weedless flower beds with no dead flowers anywhere in sight. The cottage or barn in the picture is in perfect repair and nowhere can you see any sign of anything out of order. I wrote this poem early one morning as I turned toward the east and enjoyed the "halo of life." realizing that though our little farming community is not nearly as perfect as those pictures are, that the tourists who come through here over and over again, because of the beauty, are feeling that peace.

I wonder, unless you understand and participate in the amount of labor that goes into making something beautiful, can you experience the real peace, the peace that comes from participating in that labor and then watching your children grow through their own participation? In this poem I wanted to point out that unless you understand the hard labor and back-breaking work that is put into anything beautiful, especially raising children, you won't experience the real peace.

Once again, I Love your love of the anticipation of perfect eternity. Thanks Julie. and sorry this is so long.

Oh my dear friend, thank you so much for this stroll through your beautiful home and the things that you love. Everything is so pefect and is just how beautiful I picture you to be. I absolutely love the rustic, that cowboy and cowgirl on their horses, that your children gave you is one of the most touching things I've ever seen. It made me be able to feel into your hearts. What a wonderful life. Your Victornian prints - oh, I love them. The little pigs, their my favorite farm animal. And your window is heaven. The cherubs in the bathroom are wonderful. I've been looking for some of them. All of your statues, wow.

I have had so much fun, I hope there will be a third.

Big hugs

Julie,
What a blessed woman you are....truly your home and life are filled with very "valuable" items. To be one of the greatest things I have is the cradle that Burla gave me...Wendell was rocked in it as a baby, as was Jeanette, and now my two little ones.

When we moved from New Mexico, she thought we might send it back with Dan and Jeanette...I told her "not a chance, I will rent another Uhaul if I have to." I try to seek those things out...the sentimental value of items will far outweigh the monetary value.

When Denzel passed I asked Jean for a few handkerchiefs. I wanted Ty to have one as well as one for each of the kids. I made a handkerchief doll for McNeill out of one...It is my hope that my children will take notice of these items and surround themselves with individuals like yourself to truly understand what it is to be "rich."

We are so blessed to have all the things we have, but most of all I am so blessed to be a wife, mother and to have friends such as yourself.

Thank you for sharing these things with us, and in a special way reminding us all of the importance of the "little things"

Dana
