TIME FOR SOME WARMTH....

~THE COLD WITHIN~

Six humans trapped by happenstance
In black and bitter cold
Each one possessed a stick of wood
Or so the story's told.

Their dying fire in need of logs,
The first woman held hers back
For the faces around the fire
She noticed one of them was black.

The next man looking cross the way
Saw one not of his church,
And couldn't bring himself to give
The first his stick of birch.

The third one sat in tattered cloths
He gave his coat a hitch.
Why should his log be put to use
To warm the idle rich?

The rich man just sat back and thought
Of the wealth he had in store
And how to keep what he had earned
From the lazy, shiftless poor.

The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his sight,
For all he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white.

And the last man of this forlorn group
Did naught except for gain.
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.

The logs held tight in death's still hands
Was proof of human sin.
They didn't die from the cold without
They died from the cold within.

We all hold a stick of wood...I hope we never hold it back from helping to warm another persons heart, soul or life.

I thank you all for bringing your stick and sharing it with me, you have warmed my heart and soul to a level of sweet happiness, peace, joy and sisterly comfort!

God bless each one of you!

Now, a recipe to warm your hearts....

" CHEESE DANISH "

Preheat oven to 350*

2 cans of crescent rolls
2 (8oz) packages of cream cheese
1 1/4 cups of sugar (separated as 1 cup and 1/4 cup)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup melted butter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Take 1 can of crescent rolls (do not tear apart)
remove 1 of the sections (there will be 2 in the can)
lay it on the bottom of a 9x13 pan,
same for the other section.
Take 2 packages of cream cheese,
1 cup of sugar and 1 tsp. Vanilla,
mix together and spread over the rolls.
Lay the other can of crescent rolls over the top of the mixture,
the same way you did the bottom of the rolls
Pour 1/2 cup of melted butter on top,
then mix; 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon together,
sprinkle on top....Bake for 30 minutes.
This is so good for breakfast or anytime....easy but delicious,
my favorite kind of recipe!
~~I hope everyone has a great week...keep your fingers crossed
for Spring to show her pretty face!
I don't know about you but I'm ready for some warmer weather !
Goodmorning Julie!I loved this post and oh so true it is right.Being raised with good parents makes me feel like giving from your heart is just so easy.Looking inside and thinking of someone else rather than yourself is as well.I cant believe that there are people in this life that havent been blessed with this simple giving to all humankind....it makes you wonder sometime.
The recipe, as always all of your nice and short yummys, lol looks to good.Its morning here and my mouth is watering.
Have a lovely day!Hurry up Spring!
What an inspirational and moving poem/story. It only tells even more that the tighter we hold on to the gifts God has given us to share, the less we will reap the blessings and "warmth" of the abundance that occurs when we all put our talents together and see what God will make of it. so true.
Thanks for the wonderful post to remind us.
Great poem with so much truth in it. Mom always said that would be like someone cutting off their nose to spite their face and in this case even worse. May we all learn from it!
Oh that recipe! I think I have all the ingredients in stock so you know what that means!!!!!!!
Thank you for your kind words about our spay/neuter clinic. Our goal is to put ourselves out of business if that is at all possible! I know that is a dream but we can at least cut down on all the poor unwanted cats out in our area! Promote spay and neuter!
The poem was very well written. Too bad nobody knows the author. It was that good.
You're very wise for someone so young.
Will you come to my house and make me the cheese danish pretty please?
Wow that poem will make you think.
I make that recipe too and add chopped pecans to the sugar mixture on top. We love it, sounds good too because it's so cold today. Maybe I should add some to the fire?
You know the sad thing is we all say right away that we aren't like that, but isn't most of the world exactly like that? Maybe some closer introspection is in order.
What a great poem, Julie!
It really makes me think, not just about the 'bigger issues' but on the smaller moments in my life when I've held on, stayed closed off to someone in need ~
Your recipe sounds sooooo good.
They must taste incredible!
I have never read that poem before, but how true it often is..and then sometimes, yes - sometimes, I am touched by the person who goes out of commonness to do the unthinkable, to be nice when nice is not going to profit him.When nice brings no gain at all , and when nice might actually harm him in some way. Very good poem Julie, thank-you. I will think about this poem for time to come.
